Closing of the Opening Chapter on The Core Elements of Golf
As we conclude this chapter in our Core Elements of Golf series, let us return to the roots that ground every swing, every round, and every relationship we form through the game. Golf is not merely a set of techniques to be mastered—it is a living practice, animated by rhythm, curiosity, humility, and the pursuit of presence. Each element—be it Earth, Fire, Water, or Air—invites us to reconnect with a deeper intelligence that exists within us and around us.
The game asks us to slow down, to listen, to begin again. It invites us to feel the soil under our feet, the wind across our face, the spark of determination in our chest, and the flowing ease of a well-struck shot. These are not just metaphors—they are portals to a richer experience of learning and of being.
Wherever you find yourself on your journey—beginner or seasoned player—remember that the elements are not outside of you. They are you. With each round, each breath, and each intention, you have the opportunity to align with these forces and discover not only a better swing, but a more grounded way of moving through the world.
So take this knowledge not as doctrine, but as a compass. Let it guide your play, your practice, and your connection to the course—and to yourself.
The Elements await.
Shall we keep walking?
This one hit me in a tender place.
Lately, golf has been less about the scorecard and more about surviving the weight in my chest. My dad and I are so intertwined in this game that every swing feels like a conversation with him—one that’s growing quieter as time passes. Some days, just teeing it up feels like standing on the edge of The Fool’s cliff, unsure if my legs will hold.
But this post reminded me that maybe it’s okay not to know. Maybe it’s okay to laugh after the miss, to play with trembling hands, to come back to the basics—not because I forgot them, but because they’re the only thing keeping me grounded.
Beginner’s mind feels truer…
